Is the SNR limited to 16 in 8-bit photon counting?
I do photon counting and my maximum count is 256. Does that mean that my SNR is limited to 16?
Yes, indeed. The SNR being the square root of the maximum photon count would, in this case, yield: SNR = SQRT(256) = 16.
